The British Broadcasting Corporation, or BBC [biːbiːsiː], is a UK public service broadcaster operating several radio and television programs and an Internet news service. In the UK, the BBC is also called «Auntie» and «Beeb». The British Broadcasting Company Ltd. was founded on 18 October 1922 in London by British and American manufacturers of electronic equipment for the joint sales increase of radios by offering a radio program as a corporation with a starting capital of 60,006 pounds.

John Reith applied to Sir William Noble, Chairman of the Consortium Committee, for the post of Director-General.

The license got the new company on 1 November 1922 from the British post office authority, which had to decide also over capital increases and the dividend. On December 14, Reith was appointed Managing Director, and on December 15, the company was entered in the Commercial Register.
