The NASA, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, is the 1958 founded US Civilian Agency for Space and Air Science. The head office is in Washington, D.C. (NASA Headquarters, 300 E Street SW). At the same time, NASA is an important geoscientific research institution and provides the majority of research funding for climate science research in the US.

NASA describes her vision as «improving life here, expanding life outside and finding life out there.» Hence, the mission is to «understand and protect our home planet, explore the universe and seek life and inspire the next generation of researchers.»

The future development of NASA is currently unpredictable. All projects on new technologies since the 1990s have finally been discontinued.

On September 16, 2014, NASA awarded the contract to the US companies Boeing and SpaceX to build a space shuttle for manned spacecraft by 2017. NASA hereby wants to end the current dependence on Russian space travel.
